No, our log stores are shipped flat-packed as five panels (a roof, two sides, a floor and a back-panel) to be assembled by the customer. Please see our Assembly Instructions page for details of what's involved. [Top]

How many people will be required to assemble my log store?
It is strongly recommended that you don't attempt to assemble the log store by yourself. Some of the panels are quite heavy and, to avoid injury, a minimum of two people are required to lift them into position. Please refer to our Assembly Instructions page for more details. [Top]

What tools will I need in order to assemble my log store?

Do you manufacture these log stores yourself?
No. Whilst I designed and built the prototype, I simply don't have the necessary space and equipment to mass produce them. Once the prototype was complete I contacted a long established wood-working factory in York (Focus Fireplaces) to manufacture them on my behalf. Which, they agreed to do. Focus have been in the timber fireplace manufacturing sector since the 1980s and have a reputation for producing high quality, superbly designed products at realistic prices. Therefore, they were an obvious choice when it came to sourcing an ideal manufacturer for my log stores. [Top]

Why do I need a log store, why can't I just store them outside or in the shed?
You could store your logs in your shed or garage just as I used to. The biggest problem I found was that the pile of logs cluttered up my garage and made working and moving around in there, well, interesting to say the least.

If you wished to store them outside then you'd need to find some means of keeping them off the floor and protecting them form the rain. Some people suggest positioning them on an old pallet and covering them with a tarpaulin. [Top]

Why are there gaps in the floor, sides and back of your log stores?
The gaps are there to allow air to circulate around the logs which is nessecary in order to facilitate drying. [Top]

How come there aren't any doors on your log stores?
Your log store is intended to be positioned with the front opening facing away from the prevailing wind. Thus allowing air to circulate through and dry the logs. [Top]

Do I need to position the log store on a hard-standing?
Yes. Our log stores were designed to fit snuggly onto two 900 mm x 600 mm (35½"x 23½") concrete paving slabs laid side by side. Giving and area of 900 mm x 1200 mm (35½" x 47¼").

This is nessecary to prevent the log store from sinking into the soft earth. [Top]

How big will the hard-standing need to be?
    At least 900 mm x 1200 mm (35½" x 47¼"). [Top]

May I have one of your log stores built to my own sizes?
Yes, we'll gladly alter one of our existing designs to suit your needs. Please contact us and we'll work out a price for you. [Top]

Your log stores seem to be deeper than others I've seen, why is this?
When I decided to build a log store for myself, I searched on the internet to get some ideas and was surprised to discover that most of what was on offer was only around 560 mm (22") deep. Our wood burner uses 355 mm (14") logs. So, in order to accomodate two rows, it had to be made to be in excess of 710 mm (28") deep to ensure that the front row was sheltered from the rain.

I figured that I wasn't the only one with this requirement. Hence, the depth was carried over when I designed the prototype. [Top]

What is the capacity of one of your log stores?
The capacity of one of our log stores is just over 0.75 cubic metres (26 cubic feet). [Top]
